Currently watching 'Remember the Titans' on Channel 5.
When it came out in cinemas some years back, it was probably the last film I'd considered watching. Prolly cos it was on American Football; and testosterone funfairs really didn't appeal to me. But now that I've finally watched it, it pleasantly surprised me. Fast paced, dramatic twisted laced with dry, sardonic humour at every turn. I made me crack up when the team were goofing about, got me at the edge of my seat when they got on the field, and wait with bated breath when both the 'blacks' and 'whites' were in terse conflict.
Yes, this a film that focused on the race-discrimination problem that America had widely faced somewhere in the 1980s. (based on a true story)
Of course, that wasn't the sole theme of the film but it was one that I think it was one that pretty boldly approached.
The pinnacle of the story was when Captain Gary became paralysed during a car accident, and yet his African buddy Julius strongly stood by his side. The ideology of the universal brotherhood that truimphs over adversity was portrayed in the most stylish way, and ever so apparent between Gary and Julius. All I can say is that this was a film that was made with a lot of heart, that touched me deeply and set me thinking.
" You learnt to trust the soul of a man, not by the look of him."
Aye to that, Aye indeed.
